Intro
VIAN 2024 | the largest temporary 4D movie theater
How can you control a crowd that is celebrating itself and its fire out of control? – By making them be amazed.
Every year, the Vorwerk Group invites its best sales staff to the VIAN event to thank them for their commitment and honor them with awards for their achievements. Anyone can organize boring award ceremonies. That doesn’t fit in with the core of Vorwerk.
The agency Pioneers from Mainz was awarded the contract to organize this year’s Vorwerk VIAN event and we were brought on board to create an unforgettable immersive journey for 2000 guests. Throughout the award ceremony, an exciting story was to serve as a common thread for the famously exuberant employees. The 3-hour show was to provide repeated WOW moments with spectacular staged scenes.
A massive use of LED technology and synchronized content was responsible for bringing this vision to life. And so Mission V began.
Job
Mission V: An unforgettable award show
The task was clear, but ambitious: to design and produce an internal awards ceremony that would not only recognize the achievements of the best sales employees, but also leave a lasting impression. The event needed to be captivating, memorable and reflect the innovative spirit of the company. The aim was to create a unique experience that would go beyond the typical awards ceremony and provide the 2000 guests with an experience they would talk about for a long time to come.
Concept
An extraordinary journey
The creative minds at PLUSDREI and PIONEERS envisioned the concept of staging a journey on board an airship that would take the audience to various extraordinary locations. Each location represents an award category. All of them together thus draw the dramaturgical itinerary through the evening. The idea was to transform the venue into a dynamic, ever-changing environment, with LED walls all around displaying stunning images, creating the illusion of a journey through different worlds.
The journey began in Stockholm, from where the spaceship took off, hovered over the city and flew through the clouds into outer space. With a view of the earth, the respective markets of Vorwerk’s global divisions became visible. Then it was back to earth at “Vian speed”, into a golden cave and finally plunging into the sea on the way to Viantis, a legendary underwater world reminiscent of the legendary Atlantis, which was the grand finale of the show. Each location was carefully designed to reinforce the narrative of the prizes awarded and make the experience both immersive and symbolic.
Production
Bringing the vision to life: The process in detail
The implementation of such a comprehensive idea for an event required good planning, continuous cooperation between all trades and flawless execution for a smooth process. The following production steps had to be taken into account for the content production.
Complexity
Realization of a new order of magnitude
Bringing the vision to life
One of the most remarkable aspects of the event was the level of immersion achieved. The LED walls that stretched across the entire venue were a feat of engineering and creativity. The realistic visuals and synchronized sound effects transported the audience into the action and made them feel as if they were truly traveling through different worlds. The attention to detail in every scene, from the fluffy clouds over Stockholm to the shimmering waters of Viantis, was breathtaking.
Technical challenges
Implementing a 270-degree LED wall presented a major technical challenge. Precise coordination and advanced software features were required to ensure seamless transitions between the different visual scenes. The team had to consider various factors, including the angles of the walls, the viewing angles of the audience and the synchronization of the audiovisual elements.
Creative challenges
Conceptualizing and designing visually stunning and thematically coherent environments for each of the award venues was a major creative challenge. Each scene had to be not only beautiful, but also meaningful to support the story of the awards ceremony. The balance between aesthetics and technical feasibility required close collaboration between artists and technicians.
Locations of the journey
Effekt
Moments for eternity
The ultimate measure of success was the reaction of the audience. Both attendees and the client were captivated by the experience, with many expressing amazement at the realism and creativity of the journey. The immersive nature of the event created a sense of wonder and excitement, transforming a conventional awards show into an unforgettable adventure. Smartphones were pulled out again and again to capture these unique moments.
